Tonight there is an Extraordinary Meeting of Elmbridge Borough Council. This has been convened following a Requisition signed by 5 members of the Council who wish for a specific issue to be debated – namely the proposals for the construction of a temporary motorway alongside the M25 between junctions 9 and 10 for the duration of the construction of the new service station at Downside.
It is important that concerned members of the public attend this meeting. If the developers and the Highways Agency are correct, then the impact of the development on the adjoining towns of Leatherhead, Oxshott and Cobham has been minimised. If they are wrong, the area will face gridlock for nearly 2 years. Anyone who lives in this area knows that on the occasions when there is an accident on the M25 between junctions 9 and 10 a significant amount of traffic spills off at each junction and trundles through these places causing huge tailbacks. The question tonight will be whether the developer’s planned construction method has minimised this risk.
The meeting starts at 7pm at Elmbridge’s HQ on the High Street, Esher.
